About

Welcome! Thank you for visiting Royal Rae!

I am Cecilia, mother of a wonderfully funny six-year-old girl. When my daughter was born, my husband and I decided that someone had to hold up the home fort. Truth be said, being a mother has been the hardest job I have had so far but yet the most rewarding.  Along the way, I have discovered that the resilience needed in completing a PhD in Communications is nothing compared to the patience required for parenting with kindness, love and humor.

I teach tertiary level students life skills, and I conduct Emotional Intelligence workshops for children where children learn about recognizing feelings such as happiness and anger.  My book, Perfect Match Health Education for Primary 4, 5 and 6 is being used by many primary schools in Singapore.

When my daughter was a toddler, I was really concerned about what she put into her mouth. I had been so careful during my pregnancy to eat carefully.  I didn’t paint my nails nor dye my hair.  I didn’t take any painkillers nor drink any coffee. So when it came to toys, I decided, ok… she’s had a good start in the womb, now, let’s try to extend it for as long as I can. Toys were rigorously vetted. Where did they come from? I would much rather trust the origin of the toy rather than toy safety certifications that were printed on.  Lead free? BPA free? Nickel free?

She had the usual battery-operated toys that could really entice toddlers with their sounds, light and movement but I felt it had to be balanced by toys that were not just mass produced.  I started adding non-electronic toys and natural handcrafted toys to her stash and found she would actually choose them over a loud and flashy battery-operated toy.  I observed that these handcrafted toys were much better in encouraging her creativity and imagination. Toys that she played with when she was 3 could be played with even when she was 5 but at a higher cognitive level. The wooden blocks she used earlier are now used for building castles or barriers for a tsunami.

Thus, I started Royal Rae to offer a selection of high quality handcrafted toys that will engage children.

The philosophy of Royal Rae is reflected by the name itself. My daughter’s name is Rae and in Chinese it means wisdom. This wisdom is reflected in how our toys are designed or chosen to maximise the potential of your child.  It helps that my husband has a PhD in Developmental Psychology, and together we incorporate the latest research findings on child development to our products, and my blog entries.  I hope you enjoy our products, and thank you for visiting my blog.

Why Buy From Us?

The philosophy of Royal Rae is reflected by the name itself. My daughter’s name is Rae and in Chinese it means wisdom. So this wisdom is reflected in how our toys are designed or chosen to maximise the potential of the child. Any toy that this shop carries would be what I would let my daughter play with too.

The toys also have to pass the approval of my husband who is a Developmental Psychologist and Associate Professor at a local university in Singapore.  Together we ensure that the toys have:

  1.  High Cognitive Value (Math/ Language / IQ )
  2.  High Sensorial Value ( Dexterity/ Touch Sensitivity ).

Products made under the Royal Rae brand are personally made by me from our base in Singapore. I do not compromise on the safety and quality of our toys. Every single toy is made as though it is meant for my daughter.

The main features of our handcrafted toys are:

•Design – safe and simple, to encourage the child to use his or her own imagination. (No batteries required!)

•Durability – sturdy enough to withstand years of hard play and then be passed on to the kids of the next generation.

•Craftsmanship – If the toy is wooden, then all edges and corners are rounded, and then hand sanded. For fabric toys, if it contains fillings, then all sides are triple sewn to ensure a secure fit.
